Following Napoleon's Footsteps
In a spot next to the meandering Yvon river is La Roche sur Yvon, a city built as a medieval fortress that seems stuck in that era. The town, with a population of 1,000, was the chosen by Bonaparte as the headquarters of the Republican armies in 1804. A place of peace and tranquility to pacify the rebellious people of the Vendée. Today, this place is lovely, colourful and calm, perfect for enjoying the tranquility. Different routes allow you to explore La Roche sur Yvon from the gaze of Napoleon, like the Renaissance houses, the theatre and the church of San Luis, or the equestrian Le Haras de la Vendée.
