Urban farm & cafe in an old train station

La Recyclerie is a true gem in the 18th Arrondissement, the kind of place you expect to find in Barcelona, Berlin, or Budapest, rather than classy and monumental Paris. La Recyclerie is an amazing concept set in a restored abandoned train station that is at once an urban farm, a cafe, a gallery, a restaurant, a vintage shop, and a cultural center offering all kinds of workshops, screenings, talks, and DIY-oriented events.

In the interior, you’ll find a spacious and airy cafe where you can order a glass of natural locally-sourced wine from the bar or chow down on homemade food ranging from classic French to Moroccan to Scandinavian. Upstairs, there’s a cozy platform to work a bit on your laptop or have an intimate conversation, and out back there’s a great open-air terrace overlooking the old railway tracks and the community gardens.

If you’re just in Paris for a few days, I’d definitely suggest stopping by (despite how far away it seems on the map, you can get there from downtown in about 15 minutes on the Metro) to have a look around the space and enjoy a glass of wine and a chat out on the terrace. If you’re going to be in the city for more time, check out their calendar on the website to see the events they have on. Seriously, it was one of the coolest places I found in Paris. 100% recommended.
