La Otra Banda

La Otra Banda is one of three municipal districts in the province of La Altagracia, located on Highway 104, near Higuey. If you are staying at the Punta Cana and you take the legendary excursion to Isla Saona or Catalina Island, inevitably will pass through this town on the bus to Bayahibe. It is a small town, founded in the early eighteenth century by Spanish immigrants from the Canary Islands, with a population of about 25,000 who mainly work in agriculture and livestock. What is most striking are its unique butchers, housed in small wooden buildings, whose tables are completely outdoors, from which they hang the pieces of meat like a trail of clothes.
