It along with the Last Judgment ( on-trial-end-o-the-trial-universal ) one of the most famous artworks in the world. A fresco (1511) on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, by Michelangelo. It illustrates the Biblical story of Genesis in which God gives life to Adam. Commissioned by Pope Julius II in 1508. Originally Michelangelo refused because he was primarily a sculptor, but this work eventually became his best-known creation. The episode of the Creation of Man
