The Most Awaited Destiny in San Sebastián

Located in the most centric part of the city, this beach was a much awaited destination when arriving to San Sebastián. We traveled there, after spending some time in Bilbao, to see and enjoy this sunny beach, which is full of people, ve don’t seem to bother each other, and put my feet “on the other side of the Atlantic”. It was an unforgettable moment.

It’s framed by the bay of the same name and surrounded by a beautiful esplanade with elaborate iron rails, where the artisans offer all kinds of necklaces, bracelets, wraps, etc.
It is surrounded by a great quantity of buildings, palm trees, tamarinds and a great quantity of all types and colors of flowers; the image of Sacred Heart on the top of Mount Urgull, by Federico Collaut-Valera, seems to guard the bathers, fishermen, sportsmen and inhabitants of the city.

Swimming in La Concha

What can I say of the beach of La Concha of the Beautiful Easo, the most famous beach of the four beaches in San Sebastián (don’t forget the small beach in the island of Santa Clara), as well as the most busy one, except when there is low tide. It can get quite crowed when the tide is high (it is worth taking a look in the tide table before going to these kinds of beaches).

It is a very touristic and familiar beach with very little slope as we approach the sea, which is why you have to walk a bit in the water until you reach a spot where it completely covers you. Thanks to the bay and the island, the water is usually very calm. There is no better place to enjoy the beach or walk along the magnificent esplanade, Paseo de la Concha.

The Most Famous Urban Beach

The famous La Concha Beach is located in the bay of the same name in the city of San Sebastián, Spain. It is the most famous urban beach in all of the Basque Country.

Located west of the mouth of the Urumea River, it has a length of 1350 meters and a surface of 54.000 square meters.

It is a beach with a sandy substratum and not very deep, where the course of the tides often limits the use of the surface for recreation. The pedestrian accesses are very good and it is quite popular. The color of the water is amazing.

Very Cold Water

The Concha beach is very famous. You can go down from the two hills next to the clocks or from the stairs that are found along the beach.

The water is pretty cold since it comes from the Bay of Biscay. The area where the water is warmer is in El Pico del Loro, a rock that separates La Concha Beach with Ondarreta Beach. At the top there are many small rocks that emerge from the sand and that can’t be seen when the tide is high, you have to be careful, since they are quite sharp. There is a fenced path on top of the main rock, so it is completely safe to go from one place to the other, unless the waves are strong and the tides very high.
