In the Pays de la Loire there are many unusual places, and La Cave aux Moines is one of the strangest restaurants in the region. La Cave aux Moines forms part of the thousands of miles of tunnels that during the Middle Ages, were dug out to extract the tufa stone. The result is a maze of rooms and tunnels, that has been turned into a restaurant. Located several meters underground and in the shadows, this restaurant is quite peculiar. Some of the restaurants typical dishes include mushrooms and snails. Another speciality is the 'fouées': a delicious bread dough worked and cooked in traditional wood burning ovens.
