La Calzada Beach

Conozco bien esta playa porque he vivido algunos años a apenas doscientos metros de ella. No es una playa típica, porque no da directamente al océano sino que forma parte de la desembocadura del Guadalquivir. Esta peculiar ubicación le proporciona características diferenciadoras. La temperatura de su agua es un par de grados superior a las playas atlánticas, totalmente igual a la de la costa mediterránea. Por otro lado el oleaje es prácticamente inexistente y no existen remolinos ni corrientes. La arena, aunque fina y dorada, arrastra muchos elementos por lo que la limpieza de la playa es constante y no es difícil encontrar huesos de peces o restos de embarcaciones. Estas diferencias no deben de preocupar al viajero. La playa es idónea para la pesca y para llevarse algún recuerdo marino, pero también arrastra el problema de su ubicación. Nosotros la usábamos a media tarde, excepto en verano, para pasear a los perros. Ningún problema, se llena de perros, es muy ancha y nadie se molesta. Es costumbre pasear por la arena, salvo en verano que se llena de bañistas y no se permite el acceso de animales. Mide unos tres kilómetros, estando situada entre otras dos playas. Enfrente está Doñana, comenzando la playa precisamente en el muelle de la barcaza que atraviesa el río. Allí hay un club náutico, el polideportivo y una escuela de vela. En esta zona hay que tener un poco de cuidado al bañarse porque es la dedicada a los barcos. Como el muelle pesquero, pequeñas barcas de pesca de río. A lo largo de la playa se halla el centro urbano, pues es una playa de ciudad. Por ello su Paseo Marítimo está perfectamente urbanizado y cuenta con el equipamiento habitual de una playa cuidada. A destacar que en agosto esta playa es el escenario elegido para las famosas carreras de caballo. Es una actividad simpática pues unos minutos antes de cada carrera el jeep de la Guardia Civil va por la playa abriendo camino a los caballos. Que no se me olvide tampoco mencionaros otro aspecto clave de esta playa, es el centro de la movida que en Sanlúcar de Barrameda se celebra al atardecer en su Paseo Marítimo.
