Among monks and prostitutes
In almost every city in the United Kingdom, there is a pedestrian street that functions as part of the historical and commercial center. Well, that is not the case in Stirling, because of the city's particular blend of historical structures and modern urban planning. Friars Street is the only pedestrianized commercial street in the city, but it doesn't have the historic function of a high street. Nevertheless, it has an interesting history.
In the Middle Ages, Dominican and Franciscan monks came to Scotland, and this is where they once lived. But later it became the city's red-light district, rather like White Chapel in London at the time of Jack the Ripper.
