La Almoina Archaeological Centre

4 reviews of La Almoina Archaeological Centre

History of the City

Excellent

They discovered it by accident, while they where doing reforms in the La Virgen Basilica, next door. After years of work and controversy, this spectacular museum finally opened. It is a modern, spacious archeological cultural space open to the public since 2007. Its occupies about 2, 500 square meters. During the excavations, many monumental buildings were discovered, as well as inscriptions, architectonic elements, and more than 1000 coins and 500 pieces of ceramic. My favorite part was contemplating the superimposition of constructions, buildings that devastate and preserve the ones underneath, which result in a true historic anthology of what Valencia has been over the centuries. These Roman, Arab, Visigoth and Christian findings can be seen through modern walkways and are illustrated with magnificent audiovisuals, commented by professionals and that will give you very interesting details about the history of Valencia. I recommend you to call and book a tour in advance, since it is something that you shouldn't miss.
