La Alameda Central
The Alameda Central is the oldest public park in Mexico City and one of the nicest places in the city for a walk, to read a book or just sit on one of the benches and relax. It was created in the sixteenth century by the Viceroy of the time and hundreds of poplars were planted in the area. Although they had to remove them as they were growing so fast, Central Alameda name still remains. This large central park has been the scene of death sentences of the Inquisition, a meeting place for royal lovers and the place where many homeless sleep. In addition, there are fountains that date from the eighteenth century and a small enclosure where you can listen to buskers and dance bands on Sundays.
