An area of hidden history
A very interesting history is hidden in this street. In the past, where today you can see Ivana Tkalcica street, a little stream flowed. A bridge, demolished in 1899, crossed it. Since the Middle Ages, it was the scene of very bloody battles, due to the political and economic differences between the districts of Gradec and Kaptol. It even gained the nickname Krvavi Vali (the bridge of blood). This is an important crossroads today, because it leads to different parts of the city: Ivana Tkalcica, with its bars and outdoor restaurants, on the left, Cathedral Square, or Bana Jelacica square.
