6 reviews of Kofuku-ji Temple

It is a Buddhist temple, and one of the favorites of the Fujiwara clan

If you go on foot from the station to Kintetsu Nara Park, the Kofukuji is the first temple that you will come across. It is a Buddhist temple, and one of the favorites of the Fujiwara clan, which is one of the most powerful clans in the history of Japan. The Kofukuji existed even before Nara was the capital, on the outskirts of the province and was brought to Nara in 710, when the city became the capital of the country. In fact, for the 1300th anniversary of the capital of Nara, they are rebuilding one of the main buildings of the temple (which disappeared years ago). The most famous building is the five-story pagoda, although personally I prefer Nan-in-do (it is a chapel which is a little further away in front of the pagoda).
