Living Buddha
The Kenchō-ji was the last temple we visited Kamakura. It's about 20 minutes walk along the main road from the Kita-Kamakura Station to Kamakura. It costs about 300 yen. Apparently it's the most important Zen temple in Kamakura. Today it functions as a monastery, and I even saw an English sign advertising zazen classes. Perhaps if we had had more days, we would have tried it. The temple is very old, from 1253, and in it's day it had seven buildings and 49 sub-temples. Today, the most beautiful is the living Buddha and a beautiful zen garden where you can read the kanji for the word "mind". We struggled a bit.
