1 review of Karamatura Campsite Area

    A wonderful walk

Like any camping area New Zealand has a Rangers who are responsible for care and access control. It is advisable to book, 5 euros/person. Generally camping areas are in parks or nature reserves, and only have water. Access is prohibited to dogs, and fire is not allowed under any circumstances. There are information points with pamphlets and detailed explanations of places to visit in and around the trails in the area. The trail markings are magnificent, the times and approximate length of the trails are provided. Following the river that surrounds this camp, one can walk the Karamatura loop trail which, as in most parks, is in perfect condition.

The forests are lush, valleys have lush vegetation and fauna. One can hear the particular sounds of Tui, a native bird, which they say can not sing and all it does is imitate the sound of other birds, but it really is bad. Following the trail for no more than half an hour, you reach a beautiful waterfall where you can enjoy a very cool bath. Then the trail gets a little steeper and you go into its wettest part, in the last part of the trail there are magnificent views over the bay of Huia, it is the final trophy of a wonderful walk of no more than 2 hours.
