Juturna Fountain

La ninfa Juturna era célebre por su belleza. Júpiter se enamoró de ella y le concedió la inmortalidad y el poder de reinar sobre todas las fuentes romanas -es la madre de "Fontus-. La del foro está dedicada a ella y es una de las fuentes más importantes de toda Roma. Todos los lugareños acudían a ella a recoger agua. Adeás, era venerada por las doncellas y demás mujeres. Las primeras para casarse pronto y bien y las segundas para tener un buen parto. La Fuente de Juturna se sitúa entre el Templo de Cástor y Pólux y el Templo de Vesta. Fue construida a finales del siglo II a.C. por Mételo, siendo restaurada por Tiberio. Una obra cuadrangular recogía el agua del manantial. Las estatuas de los Dióscuros se encontraban sobre una base en el centro de la fuente. Del mismo periodo es el templete junto a la fuente con una inscripción dedicatoria a Juturna. Todas estas estatuas se hallan ahora en el Antiquarium del Foro. Estad muy atentos, porque esta hermosa fuente es difícil de ver entre tanto muro y tanto templo...
