A leafy square
This square is filled with leafy local trees ... jacarandas, palm trees, pine trees of different varieties, etc. And there are the flower beds, too - roses, begonias, and many more, giving it a fresh and inviting air. Wild orchids hang from the branches of many of the trees, and I also spotted coffee plants and the "stenocarpus soniatus" or wheel of fire, with very red flowers. This square was created in what was once the cemetery, when the city was founded in the early 1600's. It was opened in 1871.
Remodeled by Alejandro Bustillo in 1937, a colourful water fountain was added with waterfalls, modern lighting, wooden benches, and two clocks.
