Jovellanos Home Museum

El museo de Gijón se encuentra en un palacio construido en piedra a finales del siglo XVI, donde nació y vivió Jovellanos. El edificio está declarado monumento histórico, y se encuentra en la Plaza Homónima, en pleno Barrio de Cimadevilla. La visita es gratuita, aunque pueden contratarse audioguías a 1,60 €. El edificio tiene 3 plantas (baja, primera y bajocubierta), en las que se disponen varias salas en torno a un precioso patio central. La exposición consiste en pinturas, esculturas, dibujos, grabados, ilustraciones, fotografías y obras en nuevos soportes, todas ellas relacionadas con el arte asturiano desde el siglo XIX hasta la actualidad, ordenadas por cronología. También hay alguna sala dedicada a pintores europeos de los siglos XVII y XVIII. Además, en este museo pueden verse también algunos objetos, adornos y mobiliario pertenecientes a Jovellanos. El museo cuenta también con una biblioteca y centro de documentación. Adosado a este museo se encuentra un antiguo hospital de peregrinos y la Capilla de los Remedios, donde se encuentran los restos del ilustrado.

La verdad es que no pensabamos encontrarnos tantas obras de arte, entre las pinturas de la planta baja la que más nos ha gustado ha sido "Las pescadoras de marisco" todo un homenaje a las mujeres que se dedicaban a esta labor. Es curioso que tengan también cuadros pintados por mujeres, eso sí que es una rareza. Tiene también muebles y adornos de Jovellanos y esculturas de madera de Navascues, nunca habíamos visto algo así y la verdad es que un tipo de escultura muy curiosa. Pero lo que más nos ha gustado ha sido el "Retablo de mar" de Miranda, es muy grande y con muchísimos personajes.Toda la historia de la rula contada en un retablo. Está en la última planta, no se puede ir a Gijón y no ver este gran obra. Por cierto, la visita a este museo es gratuita.
