A cementary with the bodies of sailors who died
Fadiouth is on the island of shells, on the coast south of Dakar senegalense. You can come from the town of Joal, by bus and then walking. It is a flat island covered with shells, up to the cemetery. The cemetery is on a little hill 10 meters high . The roads are covered with shells, which break when stepped on. Fishermen throw more shells on the roads, so it does not become sand. We spent time looking at the graves, the names of people from the French colonization of the area and the Evangelization of Peoples, Nicolas Diouf, Marie Dieye. While Senegal has more than 90% of Muslims, here they are Catholic.
The tombs have a white cross with the name of the dead. The cemetery is home to all the sailors who died at sea. It is connected to the town by a bridge, another bridge going from the island of Fadiouth to land, and measures 700 feet long. Is quite low, because the tide never rises much. When the sea floor is visible, you will see growing in the mangrove oysters, attached to the roots of the trees.
