Church of the Society of Jesus

7 reviews of Church of the Society of Jesus

Colonial baroque architecture

The Church of the Society of Jesus was built by the Jesuits in 1576 and it is considered one of the best examples of colonial baroque architecture in the Americas. It is even more beautiful than the cathedral in the Plaza de Armas, which is saying a lot. The façade is carved in stone and its main altar is made of carved wood and covered with gold leaf. The interior has a valuable collection of colonial paintings from the Cusco School. You can pick up an audio guide when you arrive.

Genial. Un gran lugar
