Pietra Island and its islets
Pietra Island and its islets are a symbol of the city. These reddish coloured rocks reddish gave the city its name. You can see them from afar, but when you get close, they look different. There is parking at the entrance, but there is no need to take a boat, because the island can be reached by foot. The most enjoyable way to get there is to take the Paseo de La Marinella. Leaving the beach town, it is situated in the heart of L'Ile Rousse, bordering the boats, with a magnificent view over the coast. The light is, as it always is in Corsica, exceptional ... The closer you get, the more you can make out the islets surrounding the island of Pietra, called Roccio, Roccetto and Piano.
As for its history, the inhabitants had the splendor of the city to Pascal Paoli, a famous character known by the nickname of "father of the nation", he decided to build a fishing port on the island of Pietra, to neutralize the trade between Calvi and Genoa. Currently the people who live on the l'Ile Rousse live mainly from tourism: its charm and tranquility, even in high season, are more than appreciated.
