One of the Great Classics of the Magnificent Mile
The InterContinental Hotel is one of the great classics of the Magnificent Mile in Chicago. Set in a pair of two towers, the one found on the south side has historical value, and the other is a bit impersonal and added in the 1960s. The original building dates back to the 1920s and houses an athletic club. Its architecture reflects popular oriental influence at the time, with Assyrian style sculptural themes and a golden dome well placed at the top of a mosque. As a hotel is a large property it is able to combine the elegance of the past along with modern conveniences. It's not up to par with the best hotels in town, but its location is unbeatable and the prices, except in times of fairs or large conferences, tend to be somewhat lower than other similar establishments.
