Inscrições no Chão

Quando se passeia por Guimarães é tão importante olhar para cima e observar a envolvente, como para baixo, para o chão. São inúmeras as memórias desenhadas nele. É possível encontrar frases ou palavras que, de alguma forma, caracterizam o povo vimaranense ou desenhos (em planta ou alçado) que nos indicam que ali, naquele mesmo sítio existiu algo ou algum monumento importante para se contar a história da cidade. Na Praça de Santiago há duas destas "inscrições" que podem passar despercebidas aos olhares menos atentos. Uma está logo depois de atravessar os arcos dos Antigos Paços do Concelho (o edifício que separa a Praça da Oliveira da Praça de Santiago). Aqui vai encontrar a seguinte inscrição, em latim; "Ad vos homines qui venistis populare in Vimaranes et ad illos qui ibi habitare volerint" - "A vós homens que viestes povoar em Guimarães e àqueles que aqui quiserem habitar". Esta frase foi retirada do foral do Conde D. Henrique e é dirigida aos habitantes da cidade. Outra está um pouco mais abaixo, é a planta da capela que aqui existiu, em honra do peregrino Santiago. Aquando das últimas obras na praça, foram descobertos os alicerces da capela. Para memória futura, o desenho da mesma foi deixado no chão, assim como a concha em representação de Santiago.
