Baroque and Rococo style Church
Among the Portuguese cities of Viseu and Lamego, this pretty town is worth a visit, if nothing for its cultural and natural heritage alone. The construction of the Church of Castro Daire that was begun in the late seventeenth and early eighteenth century and will replace a medieval church that had formerly been there is just one of the attractions here. The original medieval church would have been smaller and would have been built during the reign of King Dinis. In the church today the artistic styles typical of the eighteenth century dominate, Baroque and Rococo. I urge you to check out the magnificent shrine of the Brotherhood of Souls, in one of the most beautiful districts of Viseu, in Baroque style.
