A small, rural chapel
St Paul's Church is the most important building in the village of Pooley Bridge in the Lake District. The current building was restored and rebuilt in the mid-twentieth century, after being damaged in World War II. However, records show that a church-like structure has stood here for centuries, going back to the Middle Ages. Today this is a Church of England (Protestant) church but of course before the Reformation it would have been Catholic. It is located on a small hill in the heart of the village, and a path follows the river to Lake Ullswater, which could have been used for trade or religious pilgrimages.
