Popular and historical church
The church of San Miguel in Brough was built in 1150 as a church that was attached to that which existed in Kirby Stephen, the largest population in the area. It is now preserved parts of the original church such as the main wall that is facing south and one of the windows, which shows the Norman influences. Most of the elements of this church were created in the restorations that was carried out in the fourteenth and sixteenth centuries. With its proximity to the castle, it is clear that this church carried out functions of a chapel. Moreover, there is a tomb near the pulpit which is of Sir Gabriel Vincent, personal assistant of Lady Anne Clifford who died in an accident in the castle.
