House of Gomez Pecino or Urrutia
This house in the church square of Los Barrios (Algeciras) is a clear example of the stately homes that were built in the eighteenth century. Today, almost all local councils are turning them into multipurpose rooms, libraries and municipal offices. This mansion is named after two of its former owners and was built by the same masons who once built the Church. For several years, it served as accommodation for soldiers who settled in the city during the "siege of Gibraltar". In the late nineteenth century, dances were held in its grounds, it was later used as a school and it then underwent a careful restoration.
It has retained its stone facade, the beautiful and elegant former chapel vault, as well as the spacious gallery arches on the side of what was the hospital courtyard.
