Hotel Valenciano

Durante a segunda metade do século XIX a cidade de Valença viveu um esplendor que poucas cidades do Brasil presenciaram, tanto que o lugar seria conhecido desde esta época como a “Princesinha da Serra”. Mas o tempo passou e com ele a riqueza do café do Vale do Paraíba Fluminense, que perdeu força e riqueza no início da República. No início do século XX, muitos ricos proprietários de terra começaram a investir na industria como uma forma recuperar seus investimentos. Foi nesta época que a cidade assistiu um segundo momento de construções que deixaram patrimônios arquitetônicos tão importantes quanto aos da Era do Café. Um exemplo desta arquitetura mais despojada e moderna (como a Casa de Léa Pentagna e o Cine Glória) é o Hotel Valenciano. A construção que está a poucos metros da Estação de Valença, chama a atenção por seu estilo. Como um antigo casarão normando, o Hotel Valenciano começou a ser erguido em 1917 e teve sua inauguração em 1919. Segundo estudiosos o hotel inaugurou o período da nova elite de Valença, construído no espaço dedicado a ela. Com um espaço que emulava os grandes hotéis da Europa, o de Valença conta com adereços decorativos que exalam riqueza e prestígio. Uma curiosidade sobre o Valenciano é que até hoje a propriedade pertence a mesma família e no local ainda funcionam um bar e barbearia que parecem locações de época.
