HMS Belfast Floating Museum

Exhibit with wax figures

The exhibit about Life On Board is located on the floating museum HMS Belfast, close to the Tower Bridge on the Thames.

I liked it because I'm not really into machines and engines; So being able to see what life was like on the ship with wax figure examples was much better than just seeing an industrial ship.

You go through the different rooms, watching how they worked, rested, healed, and cooked. In the part about the kitchens you can enter and there are two chefs preparing the food. In the hospital part there are patients in bed and the dentist right there with the noises and everything!

There is a part that was a storeroom, and they explain to you that in the 70's, each sailor was entitled to a daily ration of rum, but in the end they gave it to them diluted in water, also known as grog. Only captains were entitled to pure rum.

Museum on the River

HMS Belfast is a museum anchored on the River Thames between the Tower Bridge and the London Bridge. It's the first boat preserved for the national heritage after Admiral Nelson's HMS Victory. He is famous for his participation in the Normandy landings on D-Day and for his success in sinking the German cruiser Scharnhorst.

A floating museum

Today it is a museum, but at one time the Destroyer Belfast played a very important role in various conflicts and was a highlight of the Royal Navy ship. It is next to Tower Bridge and the Tower of London.

Belfast, a journey through the past

Touring the city of Belfast, off-center, is an emotional shock. One can not deny the violent past of the streets that opposes the friendliness of the people. A city that is retried, and where I would not hesitate to go and live.
