Ouro Preto is a municipality in Brazil, in the State of Minas Gerais. It was founded in 1711 to join a large number of other villages that existed in the area. Its history was marked for a long time by the existence of large gold reserves in the soil, which were exploited by the Portuguese colonists with slave labor.
