Hillton Hotel
The Hillton hotel i Aragum Bay is between the seaside Café and the Gecko, on the main road. The people who wait on are very friendly, and there are several types of rooms. There are cabins and rooms in the main building. You are only 50 meters from the sea. There is a restaurant downstairs which serves no alcohol, but they have delicious fruit cocktails. The owner also organises some excursions and can help you to book private transportation back to the airport, to the capital or Kandy. The building was only slightly damaged by the tsunami in 2004, because it was stronger than the other buildings on the beach.
It is popular with surfers and volunteers from the NGOs in the region. The food which they serve includes curries, grilled fish, and also some European style dishes which are not quite as good. The safest thing is to ask for fish. The room rates are reasonable, less than 10 euros per night for a double room
