Heumarkt Square - Cologne, Germany: This is one of the most important squares of the city and the place where Carnival is celebrated. The name comes from the Middle Ages when it was the "Central Market". In winter, the Christmas market is held in the square and they set up a large ice rink. It's surrounded by cobblestone streets which you can wander down and reach the Rhine and Altermarkt platz. It's a real treat, especially now in spring and summertime.
