Hermitage of Charity

A la espalda de la [poi=190841]Puerta del Jaufin[/poi] nos encontraremos con la Ermita de la Caridad, un edificio religioso que puede pasar desapercibido dada la simpleza de su fachada, pero la imagen es muy venerada por los vecinos de Loja y sus inmediaciones. La imagen es muy milagrosa y se cuenta que la dejaron aquí los Reyes Católicos cuando se conquistó de los moros esta ciudad, que fue el año de 1486, y se tiene por la patrona del pueblo. La Ermita fue construida sobre el solar de una antigua mezquita. Su nave forma un paralelogramo rectángulo que está dividido por columnas dóricas en tres naves embovedadas. En el lado frontal se encuentra el camarín, a la izquierda la sacristía y a la derecha una sala de reuniones. Su portada es de cantería y sobre la misma aparece un pequeño campanario en espadaña. En sus orígenes se vinculó al antiguo Hospital de Peregrinos.
