Hala Ludowa (Centennial Hall)

Hala Ludowa (as known in Polish) was built in 1911-1913, when the city was part of the German Empire and known as Breslau. In the battle of Leipzig, Napoleon was defeated. The inauguration of the center was part of the celebration commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the battle. This is how it got its name. The center was renamed Hala Ludowa (the "Hall of the People") when the city became part of Poland under Communist rule in 1945. It was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2006. The dome is made of reinforced concrete and with an inner diameter of 69 m and 42 m high, its interior can accommodate 6,000 people.
