Hauptwache

This is the main building of the guard, which was built in 1671 and renovated in 1728. Famous people were held prisoner here in its jails. Since 1904, it is used for other purposes, now it is a cafe-restaurant in the heart of the shopping and entertainment area of downtown Frankfurt. There are also kiosks and pork sausages in the vicinity, where you can sample the German specialties.

This cute building, built between 1729 and 1731, is a former police station. In 1833 it was occupied by revolutionary democrats. Now, it is a café-bar and a good place for a drink on a terrace in the summer watching the surrounding Frankfurt. Metro U 1-3/6-7, Tram S1-6/8 Haupwache
