Solid Chinese restaurant in Chinatown
Harbour City is not the best restaurant in Chinatown, but it's definitely not the worst. What it is is a solid restaurant serving tasty above-average Chinese food at a reasonable price. What else could you ask for?
We ordered pot stickers, the roasted pork belly, and a Peking duck for two. First, the pork belly: I could have eaten it all night long. It had been roasted to tender, fatty perfection then slapped on the griddle to get that perfect crunch and doused with just the right amount of sweet man did a body sauce. It was supremely satisfying.
Next up: pot stickers. The dumplings were good but nothing out of this world. Judging by the texture and taste of the pork-and-veggie filling, they were definitely hand-made and not frozen in a bag. All around, a tasty appetizer perfect for washing down with cheap beer.
Finally, the duck. Having spent some of my youth in Hong Kong, I have a soft spot for crispy Peking duck. Again, not the best or worst duck on the planet, but they gave us plenty of pancakes and a generous portion of duck which correctly straddled the line between crispy and fatty. All in all, it's not a gourmet super-authentic place, but Barbour City is pretty good if you're jonesing for some comforting Chinese food in downtown London. Oh, and before I forget, they're somewhat known for their dim sum made fresh daily, so check it out if you're looking to get your dumpling fix!
