Guggenheim Museum

I have to admit that my relationship with the Guggenheim was love at first sight. When I saw it on TV I thought it was too modern, too unreal, too…I always found something wrong with it, but now I can only say that it is an authentic architectural marvel that has adapted to the city of Bilbao in a harmonious and perfect way.

If you are lucky enough to visit it on a day when the sun and clouds constantly change the color of the scales, you can feel really privileged. And, of course, don’t forget to see the beautiful puppy guarding the entrance. You couldn’t ask for more.

Bilbao

The Guggenheim Museum Bilbao (in Spanish, Museo Guggenheim Bilbao; in Euskera, Guggenheim Bilbao Museoa) is a contemporary art museum designed by Canadian architect Frank O Gehry.
It is located in Bilbao, Basque Country, Spain. It is one of the five museums of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation. It was inaugurated the 18th of October of 1997 by the King of Spain Juan Carlos I.

The negotiations for the construction of the museum between the public authorities of the autonomous community of the Basque Country and the executives of the Guggenheim Foundation started on February 1991. The agreement was signed at the end of that same year, and the architect and location for the building were selected in 1992.

It is a magnificent building that plays, night and day, with the light that surrounds it, highlighting the organized chaos of peculiar volumes and curves.

I recommend the view from the opposite side of the ria. It is actually better if the day is cloudy, since it highlights it even more. By night, if you are lucky that the ria is calm, the array of reflections is impressive.

The building is barely illuminated by night, but it doesn’t need it since it reflects the light around it, and it is enough to highlight the landscape. If you go by car, there is a public parking lot nearby,

If you will visit the city, you have to go. It’s amazing, inside and outside.
