Gellert Baths

The Gellert Baths are an absolute must for any first-time visitor to Budapest. Alongside the palatial Szechenyi Baths, the Gellert Baths are among the most famous and beautiful thermal baths in the city, no small feat considering that Budapest has over 20 thermal baths, many of them dating back to the 15th century. The Gellert Baths are attached to the Hotel Gellert, a legendary bastion of old-school class and refinement, but you don't need to be staying at the hotel to enjoy these spectacular baths. Just head to the hotel (on the Buda side) and follow the signs leading to the baths-only entrance on the side of the building.

It is more expensive, but worth it to appreciate its decadent architecture. Although criticized for its main pool of cold water, it is a pleasant experience as the temperature is tolerable and the setting is charming. The rest of the baths are all warm water. People like me who need glasses will have them permanently steamy but luckily it has an outdoor pool as well!
