1 review of Grizzly Jack's Grand Bear Resort

A Kids Weekend!

If there is one thing that I can truly say about Illinois's first indoor water park, is that small children will love it. However, I think anywhere where a kid can just be a kid and run around in a swim suit all day is a small child's perfect day anyway. As an adult I was a bit underwhelmed. I was little angry as well because they made promises that were not followed through.

Coming to the resort, the outside looks exciting and different and fun for any kid. In the lobby you are welcomed by a huge stuffed bear and and Davey Crocket looking fella. There is a commercialized woodlike feel about the place. It doesn't really feel like camping but it is meant to give the illusion of it. Our room was very clean and comfortable!

The water park was a lot of fun for the kids. The five year old could barely touch the bottom but the 4 year old couldn't so she had to be monitored if we left the wave pool with a sloping bottom at all. There were quite a few folks at the water resort from the ages of 12-19 which was very surprising since it seemed like a kids play area. This made the wave pool a bit more cautious than I think it was meant to be, but still a lot of fun! There was a lazy river, a playground with water guns, a raft slide (1 slide was closed), and a kiddie pool. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be.

The resort also had an indoor amusement park, which wasn't extremely small kid friendly so we were only there for a little while. They had 4 jumpy houses, a big slide you rode down on with sacks, a zip line, a play jungle gym that you walked around on with harnesses and trampolines. It was fun for a while, but the thrill quickly wears away.

When I told my cousin that we were staying there for the 4th of July, his response was "Indoor waterpark. Only in 'merica!" He was right. This is a classic midwest American adventure to have, especially with kids here. It is in the rural area of the state, but you should still save some money before going so you can go out to eat at decent places in Uttica or Ottawa.

The Ottawa fireworks on the 4th of July were pretty incredible as well.
