The main artery of Granada
Gran Vía de Colón is the main artery of Granada. Built in 1895, it is a noble street, of full of beautiful 19th and early 20th century buildings. It runs from plaza de Isabel la Católica to Avenida de la Constitución.
Highlights are the bank Santander and Bank of Spain buildings, Andrés Majón street, the old Colón Hotel (now La Paz building), Padre Suárez high-school, the Sacred Heart Church, etc. It is also the entrance to the Cathedral of Granada and the Royal Chapel.
There are some hotels, like the AC Palacio de Santa Paula and many bars and restaurants like the Gran Vía Colón or Fres&Co. Although the one thing you should not miss out on is without a doubt an Italian ice cream, served at beautiful locale at the beginning of the street. This ice cream parlour is very famous in Granada.
For those going by car to Granada, you should know that traffic is limited in this street between 7 am and 10 pm, so that only public transportation is allowed to go down the street. However there are many bus stops and almost all lines stop there: it is a good place to get the bus to the Alhambra from.
