Grainger Street
The Grainger neighborhood developed around Grainger Street, which is named after an architect who developed the city of Newcastle during the Industrial revolution, giving it a new lease on life. Buildings and houses were built, roads were widened and new bridges were built on the River Tyne to facilitate trade between the North and the South. The buildings were built in the classical style during the mid nineteenth century. In Granger Street you will find some of the most beautiful houses, which were the residences of the rich bourgeois owners of steel and iron factories. Around Grainger Street there are now many shops, like Marks & Spencers English, Fenwick and Primark as well as numerous restaurants and pubs.
