The place to eat and drink in District VII
Goszdu Udvar (sometimes known in English as Goszdu Court) is nightlife central in the heart of Budapest's trendy District VII. The complex is a series of covered passageways and courtyards which are lined with all manner of restaurants, bars, night spots, and cafes, ranging from traditional Hungarian food, to student-oriented British pubs, to trendy craft beer bars and some of the area's most popular restaurants like Spiler, DiVino, and Blue Bird Cafe. In short, if you're ever in doubt about where to eat or drink in the seventh district, Goszdu Udvar should be your first stop!
If you go on weekend nights, especially during summer when all the terraces open up, it feels like you're stepping into a block party. There are tons of tourists and locals sipping beers and local wines on the cafe terraces, music spilling out from hidden doors, and endless series of neon signs advertising everything from wine bars to homemade hummus. It's basically a playground for adults! We went for a pint of Hungarian craft beer at Lehuto and a snack at the Hummus Market and both were great, plus the vibe of the whole place makes for a really relaxing, carefree, and even romantic time.
If you're going to be in town during the summer or for an extended period of time, I'd go ahead and check out Goszdu Udvar's website to see what they have programmed during your travel dates. Some events like the Craft and Vintage Market have regular schedules (every Saturday afternoon/evening) while other events like cocktail nights, parties, concerts, or food festivals are periodic. It's a great way to immerse yourself in the local nightlife. If you're at all interested in food, drinking, and local youth culture, don't miss it!
