Gouveia, A Mountain Village

A long time ago Gouveira was considered a mountain village but today Gouveia is more than that. It is a small city with a historical center that contains museums, churches, theaters, squares, restaurants, monuments and a large Town Hall dating from the seventeenth century. Gouveia offers visitors a great deal of nature, history, heritage and cuisine. It is one of the gateways to the Natural Park of Serra da Estrela, along with the towns of Seia and Covilha where we can say that in the Serra da Estrela, is the only place where the Portuguese can practice winter sports, like skiing and snowboarding.
