The Gateway to Paradise
Glenorchy stands on the shores of Lake Wakatipu on New Zealand's South Island. It is a small village that is, above all, a place of passage for anyone travelling the wild Routeburn trail. It is also known as the Gateway to Paradise, as it leads to the Fiordland region. This is the last settlement of any size before entering one of the most beautiful mountain areas of New Zealand, where scenes from The Lord of the Rings were filmed. You can take the trail, which follows a complete circuit before ending directly in the centre of the village.
