City Garden

The public garden that stretches along the eastern side of Zara, immediately after crossing a nineteenth century gate surrounded by two original lampposts, is the oldest in Dalmatia. Opened in 1829, in the demilitarized areas of the Grimani bastion that for centuries was one of the most solid pillars of the city walls, which were built between 1537, and 1574. The garden is a series of romantic paths that culminate in leafy shade at the top of hill. In the center of the garden, there is also a great outdoor cafe. It is ideal for a walk, or to take a refreshing break in the historical Center.
