Trip back in time
One place that caught my attention when I was in Rome was the Roman Ghetto. I had seen a few ghettos in other cities like Venice but this one stuck out more than the rest. Upon arrival, hundreds of children were leaving school wearing traditional Jewish yarmulkes and many old people were sitting on benches smoking and drinking tea. The sight of this made me feel like I had gone back in time.
The Roman Ghetto is one of the most important in history because it was the first legal one that was created and made by Pope Paul IV in 1555 to separate Jews from Christians. The ghetto of Rome was also the last legal one in Europe, finally abolished in 1870 the Italian King Victor Emmanuel II.
