The oldest German society in the US
The German Society of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) was founded in 1764 and is the oldest German organization of its kind in the United States. The original office was at the German Lutheran school on Cherry Street. Today it has very precious artifacts like the Christopher Sauer Bible which was the first Bible to be printed in any European language in the United States. Started by twelve ladies, and led by Antonie Ehrlich, Women's Auxiliary rose to 800 members after its official incorporation in 1908.
