Garganta de Cuartos

A veces, cuando se presenta la ocasión, unos amigos y yo solemos ir a un camping cercano a Losar de la Vera, en la provincia de Caceres, cerca de Talavera de la Reina y Plasencia. Es un paraje precioso y acompañado de un rió donde se puede nadar, o en el caso de mis fotos, tratar de recorrerlo a pie a contra corriente. Si no tienes miedo de darte un chapuzon en agua fría el paseo merece la pena. Las fotos están tomadas desde la pequeña cala del Camping Godoy hasta la pasar el puente que cruza la Garganta de Cuartos, en donde el rió tiene tal profundidad que podrías lanzarte desde el propio puente sin miedo a hacerte daño. En ese punto también encontramos una cafetería con una terraza desde las que se puede apreciar las cumbres de Gredos. Desde este punto seria posible también ir a Arenas de San Pedro, en Ávila, que esta a una hora de trayecto, unos 50 Km, es otro lugar bonito de visitar a las faldas de Gredos, sobre todo merece la pena cuando las cumbres están nevadas.

Este sitio es probablemente el sitio más especial para decenas, cientos de lugareños que la han vivido desde niño, nacidos o de adopción. La Garganta de Cuartos se encuentra en La Vera y es un lugar único en España. La Vera es la mezcla de la mayoría de culturas que ha conocido la zona. Desde iberos hasta los romanos que conquistaron sus tierras, los celtas, los arabes, los judíos... Todos aportando su ingrediente especifico a este pequeña ladera de montaña que llamaron posteriormente La Vera. La Vera está constituida por más de un veintena de pueblos que suelen acabar con la coletilla "de la Vera"-- Los más famosos siendo Jarandilla de la Vera por su parador y por haber acogido a Carlos V en retiro, pero también están Villanueva y Valverde de la Vera por su empalaos de Semana Santa, Cuacos de Yuste y su monasterio etc.. En la carretera comarcal que une todos esos pueblos desde Madrigal hasta más allá de Jaraíz de la Vera aparece en el camino un puente.. El puente de Cuartos.. Parece que los romanos que se desplazaban hasta la capital de Iberia (Mérida) preferían huir el calor del valle del Tiétar y las amenazas de bandoleros y solían transitar por la Vera cruzando las distintas gargantas (ríos como se les llama en La Vera) construyendo puentes de piedra.. El Puente de Cuartos, sería según la leyendo el cuarto puente en el camino hacia Xaraíz.. Aquí en este sitio tan bonito, tan natural es donde aprendieron a nadar probablemente los antepasados de muchos de nosotros, mis abuelos, los hijos y nietos de ellos, como yo... Y todos le tenemos un muy especial "cariño". El Puente de Cuartos es muy recomendable todo el año. En invierno con su vista a la Sierra de Gredos por las nieves que cubren sus picos y su agua brava.. En Primavera por lo frondoso de sus arboles, en verano por lo fresquito de su agua pura.. En Otoño por la tonalidad que cogen las hojas de sus arboles.. Sin embargo lo recomendaría fuera de la temporada estival. En verano, llegan las hordas de turistas que llenan un camping cercano con su música, ruido y poco respeto a la limpieza del sitio. Lo mejor es ir en primavera o al empezar el verano. Cuando aún se atreven pocos a bañar por la temperatura de sus aguas.. Bañarse ahí te deja como nuevo. Después con una toalla, es un gusto tirarse al sol en sus rocas pulidas por siglos y siglos de erosión.. Algunas adaptándose a formas humanas. Y la energía que recogen esas piedras que han visto crecer a tantos de nosotros. Los que llegan ahí se quedan pasmado por lo transparente de su agua ofreciendo una vista a fondos de más de 5 metros con truchas y barbos que nadan apaciblemente por ella. Algunos, los más temerarios, disfrutaran de emociones más fuerte al saltar de las distintas alturas que ofrecen rocas, arboles o el puente en si.. Aunque como amante del lugar no me gusta como tratan las ramas últimamente, ni los riesgos inútiles que toman algunos para "hacerse el interesante" sin saber lo que hay en el fondo... La Garganta de Cuartos para los habitantes de los pueblos cercanos de Robledillo de la Vera y del Losar de la Vera es un sitio muy especial. Y aunque haya perdido la autenticidad de los años sin coches, ni motos.. Sigue siendo un lugar de paz cuando la temporada es baja. Hay tres restaurantes a la orilla del puente. Yo recomiendo siempre el de arriba, que tiene una terraza con una vista única a la parte trasera del puente y donde se puede comer una buena carne a la brasa, una ensalada del huerto local, migas extremeñas muy ricas y acabar si te jhas quedado con hambre con un "suspiro de monja", postre típico de la Vera. Si vais por favor, cuidadla, es como nuestro centro de vida, de energía y de luz.
