The Municipal Gallery in the Lenbachhaus
The Municipal Gallery in the Lenbachhaus is an art museum in Munich, capital of Bavaria. It's in a building that's been declared a historic monument, the Villa of the "Prince of Painters" (Franz von Lenbach) and was built 1887-1891 according to a design by Gabriel von Seidl. 1927-1929 it was extended by Hans Grässel, something that happened again in 1969-1972, by Heinrich Rudolf Volbehr and Thönessen. Some of the rooms are in their original state and are part of a guided tour. A building that already in itself is a work of art. It houses a number of expressionist works, signed by famous brushes such as Kandinsky, Münter, Marc and Klee, the quality of the concentrated sample in this palace is the result of its tremendous variety.
