Fragile region with natural reserve
It seemed very easy to take the road to Pottuvil Monaragala to get to Arugam Bay and beautiful beaches, but it was the season of pilgrimage I a neighboring town so all of the buses were full and carried pilgrims and not tourists. In the end we waited at a crossroads halfway between Pottuvil Monaragala for a bus pass. However most went to Ampara. When the bus did arrive it was very full but luckily we were able to sit down. This region is still quite weak and there are a lot of police controls frecuently. The journey from the crossing took almost two hours when there are only 35 kilometers to travel.
The tuk tuk offers it for about Rs 1400 and says they take less but I doubt it because the police stops you twice and you have to wait. The 306 kilometer level nature reserve is Lahugala and evening - night you can see elephants. There are some interesting churches along the way too.
