Big entertainment centre
Built in the seventeenth century to be the main axis, north - south of the city. Friedrichstadt crossed villages (where it is now the Gendarmenmarkt, hence the name of the street leading to Friedrichstadt), and Dorotheenstadt. At the end of the nineteenth century, several cafes and restaurants, luxury shops opened, to create one of the biggest entertainment centers of the capital. During World War II, it was completely destroyed. After the partition of the city, this street was in Berlin East, but ended at Check Point Charlie, which marked the border with the West. After 1990, it was renovated, now the streets are lined with luxury shops, international hotels and restaurants.
